The experience

Become Part of the Parade

Watching Rio Carnival is unforgettable. Parading in it is something entirely different. Dressed in the costume of a samba school, you join its members and participants as months of preparation come together for one extraordinary performance.

The experience builds before you even reach the parade avenue, as your group gathers and prepares for its turn. Then comes the moment you enter the Sambadrome – surrounded by percussion, movement, costumes, and thousands of spectators – and become part of the spectacle you would normally watch from the stands.

good to know

Before You Go

Parading with a samba school is different from attending Carnival as a spectator. Preparation and timing matter, and knowing what to expect will make the experience even more memorable.

Your Costume Is Part of the Parade

Participants wear the costume assigned to their section of the samba school. Details regarding collection, sizing, and preparation will be provided in advance.

Follow the Samba School’s Instructions

Participants must follow the guidance provided for their section, including meeting arrangements, positioning, and parade instructions.

Expect an Active Experience

You will be walking, moving, and participating throughout the parade, so comfortable footwear and following the costume instructions are particularly important.

Allow Plenty of Time

Preparation begins well before your group enters the Sambadrome. Your schedule for the evening should remain flexible around the samba school’s parade timing.

FAQ – Rio Carnival – Parading

Can visitors really participate in the Rio Carnival parade?

Yes. Depending on availability, visitors can participate with designated sections of a samba school and cross the Sambadrome as part of the parade.

Do I need to know how to samba?

No professional dance experience is required. You should, however, be comfortable moving with the group and following the instructions given for your section.

Is the Carnival costume included?

The required costume is arranged as part of the parade experience. Details regarding sizing, collection, and how it should be worn will be communicated before the event.

How long will I actually be in the parade?

Your time on the parade avenue represents only part of the overall experience. Additional time is required beforehand for meeting, preparation, organization, and waiting for your section to enter the Sambadrome.

Can I also watch the Carnival parade?

Yes. Sambadrome spectator access can be arranged separately, allowing you to combine participating in a samba school with watching other performances during Carnival.
