What To Expect From The Experience
Located about one hour from Belo Horizonte, Inhotim Institute is both a contemporary art museum and a botanical garden, set within a vast landscape of gardens, lakes, and forest.
With more than 140 hectares open to visitors and thousands of artworks and plant species, it is considered one of the largest open-air museums in the world, where art and nature are experienced together rather than separately.
The experience begins with a private transfer to the institute, followed by a curated visit adapted to your interests. Given the scale of Inhotim, navigation is part of the experience itself. Paths lead between independent galleries, outdoor installations, and landscape interventions that reveal themselves gradually.
Unlike traditional museums, there is no fixed sequence. You move through space rather than rooms, allowing for a more fluid and personal rhythm.
The collection includes works by internationally recognized artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Olafur Eliasson, and Cildo Meireles, presented in dedicated pavilions or integrated directly into the landscape.
Throughout the day, the experience alternates between architecture, open-air installations, and moments of pause within the gardens. The botanical collection itself is extensive, with thousands of rare species from different continents, reinforcing the dialogue between art and environment.
Given its scale, the visit is intentionally selective. Rather than attempting to see everything, the experience is curated to focus on a few key galleries and landscapes, creating a more meaningful and less fragmented visit.
